2015 Annual Report & Members Meeting

President's Message:
We Are Not Standing Still

As your outgoing OPPI President, I want to take this opportunity to focus for a moment on the core business of the Institute: advancing the planning profession in Ontario. Together we made great strides forward this year.

Our new governance structure is resilient. It supports effective and timely decision making, facilitates meaningful member engagement, empowers strong District Leadership Teams and attracts high volunteer participation with a record number of events and policy submissions. And all within a context of continuing financial stability.

OPPI is a model professional organization, emulated for what it offers, what it delivers and what it stands for. Congratulations to Council, our over 4,000 members and our hundreds of volunteers who embrace the values of the organization and embody the essence of professionalism.

The Learning Strategy guides the creation of new and emerging platforms for the delivery of Continuous Professional Learning (CPL). Innovation and relevance underlies these platforms which include OPPI’s blog, the Planning Exchange and online Digital Learning resource centre, including a podcast series with Cities Alive. The extremely high CPL completion rates demonstrate members are embracing their professional commitments with enthusiasm.

A comprehensive communications strategy and new member engagement strategy allows OPPI to interact with members in new and innovative ways and keeps the Institute’s website dynamic.

It is also important for you to know that progress is being made on attaining a fully regulated profession. This will give the public confidence that professional planners’ opinions support the greater public good. And it is founded in our considerable organizational strength that ensures planners adhere to a shared standard of ethics, knowledge and skill.

These achievements and the realignment of professional planners across the country, build a solid foundation for moving the profession to the next level. Congratulations!

I want to thank Andrea Bourrie for her tireless work as OPPI’s CIP representative. As the Institute’s next President, this experience and the legacy she inherits from all of OPPI’s past Presidents will serve her well as she leads the organization to the next level.

I look forward to seeing you at the AGM.
