103B - Who wants to live in a floodplain?

September 23, 2020

4:35PM - 4:55PM

Everyone in the planning and development field feels the pressure to speed up and simplify the planning process to bring housing units to market. The need for housing options in major urban centres is driving change in both municipal planning processes and Conservation Authority legislation province-wide. Unfortunately, pro-growth pressure is also applied to “bad” development. The Special Advisor’s Report on Flooding provides perspective on the roles and interactions between government and Conservation Authorities in flood management. The Conservation Authority’s role starts early in the planning stage and extends all the way to approvals relating to flood-related damage repair. Session highlights include the Special Advisor’s recommendations, specific examples of on-going development in hazards, and Conservation Authority perspectives to planning in a hazard (including landslides).
