Charles Gardner, MD, CCFP, MHSc, FRCPC has been the Medical Officer of Health for the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit since 2005. He leads the Locally Driven Collaborative Project (LDCP), an initiative to develop resources based on a review of the literature on community design features that promote health, a review of the community planning process in Ontario, a survey and interviews on the practices that have been found to be most effective for health units to support planning for healthy community design, and on the outstanding needs of health units to fulfill these practices.
